A sterling silver and engraved crystal travel drinking flask with removable drinking cup. This is a stunning piece, very simple in design, however, what makes this flask unusual is the unusual hand engraved floral designs to the exposed part of the glass. Another lovely feature is the small cup also doubles as an added layer of protection to the flask, to prevent any damage to the precious cargo. It is also a perfect pocket or handbag size.
Flasks such as this are not too uncommon. However, there are very few indeed that have been made with such hand engraving is applied to the glass section. It is common to find initials, crests or messages to be engraved onto the silver elements. Any pattern or detail is very rare to be found on the glass. It is difficult to take photographs of the engraving well, but in person it has depth and beauty to it. Many hand made lines have been drawn into the flower's detail.
The flask has full assay hallmarks on both the flask and cup and was made in Birmingham, England, in 1901 by prolific and highly regarded silversmith's Arthur & John Zimmerman. The lid is a classic bayonet style fitting, secure, and with a cork liner to prevent any leakage. The piece is in excellent condition throughout.
