An Art Deco ruby red glass and brass novelty cocktail shaker. This is a classic and iconic piece of barware, but appearing here in one of its rarest colors. This shaker has been made in all metal, clear glass, this ruby red, and an emerald green, the most rare.
The shaker is made up of three pieces; the glass body, the lid and a removable interior strainer. They are based on a 19th Century fire extinguisher that would have been found in bars and restaurants at the time, and this idea of novelty shakers has some foundation in the age of post prohibition America, where drinking, in some sections was frowned upon.
The usual instructions for using a real fire extinguisher have been replaced with a witty play on the bartender using it, and executed in a gilt colored font. The maker for these shakers has not been identified, but they came out of America during the 1930's and 1940's. The condition is perfect, and would make for a great splash of colour to any bar. (Please note the one shipping has a brass top)
